Best-seats guide · Boeing 737 MAX 9
The best seats on the Icelandair Boeing 737 MAX 9.
The Icelandair Boeing 737 MAX 9 seats 178 passengers across 2 cabins. Every row below is rated on legroom, location and distance from galleys and lavatories.
The longer of the two 737 MAX types in the Icelandair fleet, the MAX 9 carries more Economy seats behind the same Saga Premium section at the front. Saga Premium is a two-two recliner arrangement — personal space and extra pitch without a flat bed, suited to transatlantic sectors under eight hours. Economy runs three-three across the rest of the aircraft.
Unlike the MAX 8 configuration, this aircraft carries extra-legroom Economy seats and exit rows — a meaningful difference for tall passengers or anyone who wants a little more space without the Saga Premium fare. Those positions are marked on the cabin map and are worth selecting early. The forward Economy rows are still the most practical choice for quick boarding and clear of the rear galley, but the extra-legroom options mid-cabin give a real alternative.

Frequently asked
Saga Premium is the front-of-cabin recliner product with a two-two seat and dedicated service. Economy Comfort is an Icelandair fare type that unlocks extra-legroom rows within the main Economy cabin — more space, same seat hardware. They are different products at different price points.
The exit rows and designated extra-legroom rows are marked on the cabin map. This configuration carries a reasonable number of these positions — more than the MAX 8 layout — so checking the map before selecting is worthwhile on a long crossing.
The extra-legroom rows are the top picks if space matters; the cabin map marks them clearly. Otherwise, forward Economy rows are quieter, clearer of the rear galley, and board and disembark more efficiently. Window seats give the best view on a flight that often crosses Greenland.
