Rockhampton Airport sits just south of the city centre in Central Queensland, serving Rockhampton and the wider Capricorn region. It is a regional airport rather than a capital-city hub, but a busy one by regional standards, and almost all of its traffic is domestic. The network is built on the steady link to Brisbane plus connections across regional Queensland.

The airport carries a strong fly-in fly-out workload tied to the mining and resource industries of Central Queensland, alongside ordinary business and leisure travel. A terminal refurbishment completed in 2021 reworked the passenger flow and added private airline lounges, so the experience is more comfortable than the airport's regional scale might suggest. Rockhampton is also a stepping-off point for the Capricorn Coast and Great Keppel Island.

The network is domestic and regional. QantasLink and Virgin Australia run the trunk service, with the Brisbane link doing most of the work and onward connections feeding the rest of the country through the capital. Regional routes reach other Queensland centres such as Mackay, Townsville and Cairns, flown on a mix of narrowbody jets and regional aircraft depending on the carrier and the route.

Beyond the scheduled airlines, charter and fly-in fly-out operators use Rockhampton as a base for the resource sector, so the apron sees resource-industry movements alongside the everyday passenger schedule. There is no scheduled international service; long-haul travel runs through Brisbane.

Rockhampton works from a single passenger terminal, refurbished in 2021 with reworked check-in and security areas and private airline lounges for eligible passengers. Check-in and screening are straightforward for an airport of this size, and queues are usually short outside the busiest fly-in fly-out shift changes.

Getting there is simple. The terminal is close to the city centre, with surface car parking outside the door and taxis and rideshare at the front. Local bus services connect to Rockhampton city and the Capricorn Coast, though they run to set timetables rather than meeting every flight, so confirm times before you rely on them. There is no rail link to the terminal. Allow normal regional-airport margins; you do not need the long lead times a capital-city airport demands.
