Avoid 8A, 9A, 9F (No window at this seat position — wall only); 28A, 28B, 28C, 28D, 28E, 28F (Near lavatory (behind) — some queuing traffic…); 29A, 29B, 29C, 29D, 29E, 29F, 30A, 30B, 30C, 30D, 30E, 30F (Slightly narrower seat than standard for this…)
One of Virgin's 737-800 cabin variants. Across the V-series the differences come down to the Business and Economy split — the aircraft, the service and the cabin product are the same. What matters more than the variant number is whether you're on a refreshed jet, with power and new seats, or an older one.
In priority order: the exit rows for legroom, the forward rows for a quick exit, a refreshed jet over an older one. Business is solid on any variant, and Virgin's cabin crew tend to outdo the cabin.
The usual 737-800 caveats — the rear for noise, the middle for the squeeze, and an un-refreshed jet for the missing amenities.
The V5 has a lower total seat count than some denser 737-800 configurations, which typically means slightly more legroom pitch in Economy. The cabin product and layout are otherwise the same.
Virgin Australia's booking systems do not consistently display the specific configuration variant. The aircraft type will show as 737-800, but which internal layout is assigned can change with aircraft swaps. The seat map at booking or check-in is the best real-time indicator.
Exit row seats are typically available to purchase in advance via Virgin Australia's seat selection, and sometimes open up for free at online check-in 24 hours before departure. Availability varies by route and how full the flight is.
