About the Boeing 737 MAX 8
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is the current generation of Boeing's long-running 737 single-aisle family, re-engined and reworked to burn less fuel and fly further than the 737-800 it replaces. Airlines use it for the same short and medium-haul work the 737 has always done, and the extra range has opened up longer thin routes the older jets could not serve comfortably.
The cabin is the familiar 737 single aisle with three seats either side, so every row offers a window, a middle or an aisle. The MAX carries Boeing's newer cabin interior with larger overhead bins, which in practice means less of a scramble for bin space than on older narrowbodies. What the aircraft does not decide is the thing that matters most to you: how densely your airline chooses to fit it out.
Cabin configurations
Operators fit the MAX 8 across the full range. Low-cost carriers run one dense economy cabin from front to back with no separate class at all. Full-service airlines usually put a small recliner cabin up front, two seats either side of the aisle, sold as business or domestic first depending on the market. Many add a named extra-legroom section inside economy, which is the same seat with more space in front of it rather than a different class.
That extra-legroom section is worth understanding before you pay for it, because its value varies. On some airlines it is a genuine block of roomier rows towards the front. Seat selection tips
The seats worth having on a MAX 8 are the exit rows and the front of economy: better legroom and off the aircraft sooner. Treat the row directly ahead of an overwing exit with caution, since recline there is often restricted or missing entirely, and expect the last rows to be busy and slow to clear, backing onto the rear galley and lavatories. A window over the wing rides most smoothly if turbulence bothers you.
