IATA 320 / ICAO A320
SeatMap.app currently has 97 published Airbus A320 configurations from 69 airlines. Use this aircraft hub to compare 126-186 seats, cabin classes, and airline-specific layouts before opening a full seat map.
The Airbus A320 is the workhorse single-aisle jet of short and medium-haul flying, and one of the two aircraft (the other being Boeing's 737) that carry the bulk of the world's domestic and regional traffic. If you fly a capital-city hop or a short international leg, the odds are good you are on an A320 or one of its close relatives. It is the aircraft most travellers meet most often, which is exactly why the seat you end up in matters.
The cabin is a straightforward single aisle with three seats either side, so every row is either a window, a middle or an aisle. What changes between airlines is everything around that grid: how many rows they pack in, where they place the exit rows, whether the front cabin is a separate class or just economy with a blocked middle seat, and how the galleys and lavatories are split front and rear.
Operators fly the A320 in very different ways. A full-service carrier might run a genuine two-class layout with a small business or domestic-first cabin up front and a roomier economy behind it, while a low-cost airline fills the same airframe with a single dense economy cabin and tighter legroom throughout. That is why two flights on the "same" aircraft can feel nothing alike, and why comparing the actual seat map for your airline beats assuming a standard layout.
Exit-row placement is the other big variable. The A320 has overwing exits partway down the cabin, and how an airline treats those rows changes the value of the seats around them. Some sell the extra-legroom exit rows at a premium; some leave the row ahead of an exit with a seat that does not recline. The interactive maps for each airline on this hub show where those rows fall, so use them to compare before you choose.
On the A320 the sweet spots tend to be the exit rows and the very front of economy, where legroom is best and you board and leave quickly. The seats to approach with care are the row directly ahead of an overwing exit, which often has limited or no recline, and the back rows near the rear galley and lavatories, where there is more foot traffic and noise. A window seat over the wing gives the smoothest ride if turbulence bothers you; a window towards the front gives the best view.
Because airlines lay the cabin out so differently, the only reliable way to pick well is to open the seat map for your specific airline and configuration. Compare the layouts across operators using the airline cards above, then jump into the full map to see the seat-by-seat ratings for the exact flight you are booking.
